Mail and Parcels Received at Home While You Are Traveling

Every now and then an unexpected letter or parcel may be received at home via ground mail.  There are two effective ways of dealing with this, both of which require a trusted friend or relative who is responsible for sorting through your mail, and one of which requires that you have an American Express credit card in your name:

 

If the trusted friend or relative who is designated to sort through your mail suspects that a particular piece of mail or a parcel may be important for you to know about, they should attempt to contact you about it right away.  If you have agreed in advance that they may open your mail, or if you authorize them to do so on a case-by-case basis, they can scan the contents (if a letter) so that you can make any further decisions concerning what to do.

 

If you have an American Express credit card, they may forward the mail or parcel to any American Express travel bureau in the world, which will hold the items for you up to 30 days.  This program has some restrictions, and it requires an American Express credit card in order to participate.  You may find more details at
