Embassies, Chanceries, and Diplomatic Missions of Other Countries There are two occasions when an RTW traveler may need the services of a diplomatic mission from a country other than his or her own.
First, you may need to visit a foreign diplomatic mission to obtain visas and other permissions to travel in the country the particular mission represents. You may generally contact any of the diplomatic missions in any part of the world to obtain such permissions for a given country or region.
The second reason you may need to contact a foreign diplomatic mission is to arrange for services from your own country if it doesn’t maintain an official diplomatic presence where you are. This is rare, and it can happen even if your home country officially recognizes the country you are in. In such circumstances, your country’s government may direct you to another country’s embassy or consulate which handles day-to-day matters for both.
Business Travelers Foreign diplomatic missions provide a variety of services to business travelers, most of them trade-oriented. A diplomatic mission will help business travelers find trade leads so long as that business person intends to help exports from the mission’s home country. For details about services provided to business travelers, consult the websites for the diplomatic missions concerned or use trade and online resources. |
