Second-Guessing One’s Own Decision To Take an RTW Trip

It is not uncommon to have occasional doubts about why one has decided to leave one’s home, family, and friends for an extended period of time, such as the time spent on an RTW trip.  Rest assured that this is a natural feeling, and one that speaks to putting the unknown ahead of the known.  And rest assured - as one travels further into an RTW journey,  enjoying the learning experience of a lifetime, occasional remorse will turn into occasional satisfaction that one has indeed made the right decision, and a decision that will benefit him or her the rest of their life.

If doubts start to persist either before or during an RTW journey, take a moment to stand back from your research or diary.  Review what you have learned.  Thumb through correspondence from family and friends who support you.  Take a few moments to get your mind off of things, and typically in no time a feeling of certainty will return.  You will be experiencing things that will be with you forever.
